Clerk of Courts

The elected Clerk of Courts is the chief record keeper of the criminal courts. This official is responsible for maintaining the minute book and record of all court proceedings, filing all papers in accordance with criminal court procedures, and distributing court-related costs.

The mission of the Clerk of Courts office is to provide Somerset County with a number of services to the public, judicial systems, county government and other agencies. Our clerks strive to perform their constitutional and statutory duties in a professional, courteous and efficient manner. We are dedicated to keep our office up-to-date through training and technology.

The Clerk of Courts is the custodian of the criminal court records. We also issue licenses and maintain files for constables, private detectives and bondsmen. In January of 2006, the Somerset County Clerk of Courts Office connected live with the Pennsylvania Common Pleas Case Management System (CPCMS.) All 67 Counties in Pennsylvania utilize CPCMS to facilitate the transfer of information and data from the Magisterial District Courts, Court of Common Pleas and PA State Police. This system is constantly updated by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts to keep current with legislation and rules which interface with other state and local agencies. This leads to an efficient and effective handling of

 criminal data.

Our office is also responsible for criminal jury selection and the collection of costs and fines associated with cases.  Annually, we file at least 1500 cases which include criminal, miscellaneous dockets and summary appeal cases. We expunge between 250 and 300 cases per year.
