BERLIN BOROUGH HAS NEW RECYCLING FACILITY

The Somerset County Recycling Program and the Borough of Berlin are pleased to announce that on August 14, 2007, a recycling facility was installed on Stewart Street next to the Berlin Borough Maintenance Building.

At the request of the Berlin Borough, John Peters, Somerset County Recycling Coordinator, attended their Council meeting on June 14, 2007. The feasibility of getting a facility was discussed and a conversation was had about funding. In keeping with Recycling Program policy, the cost of the building, a grand total of $1375.00, was shared equally between the County and Berlin Borough.

The recycling facility is an 8’ x 12’ building with 7’ sides. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week in order to give residents ample opportunity to recycle. Commodities accepted at the facility include aluminum beverage containers, tin and bi-metal food and pet food containers, and clear, brown and green glass bottles and jars. All recyclables should be thoroughly rinsed out. There is no need to remove the labels; however, lids should be removed from the glass containers.

Any questions on this or any other recycling issue should be directed to John Peters, 814-445-1571, or by email at recycling@co.somerset.pa.us. Additional information recycling can be found at www.co.somerset.pa.us/recycling.
